Getting Started

How do I know if the centre is right for my loved one?

The best way is to come and visit. We will show you around, introduce you to the team, and answer any questions. You can bring your loved one along too. Many people find that a visit helps them feel more comfortable about the idea. There is no pressure or commitment.

How do I arrange a visit?

Simply contact us or call 0800 612 8825. We will find a time that works for you and your loved one.

What happens after the first visit?

If you think we are a good fit, we will arrange a more detailed conversation about your loved one's needs, interests, and goals. We may also arrange a taster session, a short visit where they come in for a couple of hours to try it out. If everyone is happy, we will build a personalised plan and agree on start dates.

Do you need a diagnosis to attend?

No. While many of the people we support have a formal diagnosis of a learning disability or autism, we do not require one. What we need is to understand your loved one's needs, strengths, and goals. A diagnosis is just one piece of that picture.

Attendance

What days and times are you open?

We are open Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm.

How many days should my loved one attend?

That is entirely up to you and them. Some people come one day a week. Others come five. We recommend starting with one or two days and building up gradually. It gives everyone time to settle in.

Can attendance change over time?

Absolutely. If your loved one wants to add or reduce days, just let us know. We will work with you to adjust the plan. We just ask for as much notice as possible so we can manage staffing and scheduling.

What if my loved one does not want to come one day?

That is okay. It happens. We ask that you let us know as early as possible. We will never force anyone to attend. If it is becoming a pattern, we will talk with you about it and explore what might be behind the reluctance. Sometimes a small adjustment to the plan makes all the difference.

Care & Support

What is your staff-to-attendee ratio?

Our staffing ratios are based on the needs of the people attending on any given day. For individuals with higher needs, we provide 1-to-1 support. We always ensure staffing levels meet the needs of everyone at the centre. Contact us to discuss your loved one's specific requirements.

Are your staff trained?

Yes. All our staff are DBS-checked and trained in:

  • Autism awareness and support
  • Learning disability care
  • Sensory processing and support
  • Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
  • Epilepsy awareness and management
  • Moving and handling
  • First aid
  • Safeguarding
  • Medication administration

We also provide ongoing training and development throughout the year.

Can you support personal care needs?

Yes. We provide dignified personal care support, including help with toileting, eating, and personal hygiene. Our facilities include accessible toilets and changing facilities. We handle personal care with the utmost respect for each person's dignity.

What about medication?

Our trained staff can administer and manage medication according to each person's care plan. We follow strict protocols for medication storage, administration, and record-keeping. Just provide us with the details and the medication in its original packaging.

Can you support someone with behaviours that challenge?

Yes. This is one of our areas of expertise. Our staff are trained in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), and we work with families and professionals to develop individual behaviour support plans. We focus on understanding the function of behaviour and proactively preventing distress.

What if there is a medical emergency?

All staff are first-aid trained. We have clear emergency protocols, and we will contact you immediately if there is any concern about your loved one's health. For serious emergencies, we will call 999 and stay with your loved one until help arrives.

Environment & Facilities

Do you have a sensory room?

Yes. We have a dedicated sensory room with adjustable lighting, sounds, textures, and equipment. It is available throughout the day for anyone who needs it, for sensory input, for calming, or just for some quiet time.

Is your building accessible?

Yes. Our centre is fully accessible, with:

  • Step-free access
  • Accessible toilets and changing facilities
  • Wide doorways and corridors
  • Designated accessible parking
  • Hoists and sensory-friendly lighting
Is the centre secure?

Yes. We have secure entry and exit points, and we monitor who comes and goes. For attendees who may wander, we have additional safety measures in place. Your loved one's safety is our priority.

Do you provide meals?

Yes. We provide cooked meals each day, with all dietary needs and preferences catered for. Some people also like to help prepare food, which is a great life skills opportunity. Let us know about any allergies, dietary requirements, or food preferences.

Do you provide transport?

We can arrange transport to and from the centre, either through our own service or via local authority transport. There may be an additional cost for transport, or it may be included in your local authority funding package. Ask us for details.

Families & Communication

How will I know how my loved one's day went?

We provide a brief daily update, either through our portal, a communication book, or a phone call. We will tell you what they did, how they were, and anything notable. For more formal reviews, we schedule regular meetings to discuss progress and adjust the plan.

Can I visit during the day?

Yes. You are welcome to visit at any time. You do not need an appointment. We want families to feel connected and involved. If you would like to spend time at the centre or join an activity, just let us know.

Will you involve me in decisions about my loved one's support?

Absolutely. You know your loved one better than anyone. We will involve you in creating the initial support plan, in regular reviews, and in any significant changes. We see families as partners, not visitors.

What if I have a concern or complaint?

We take concerns seriously, and we want to hear them. You can speak to any member of staff, or ask to speak to the Centre Manager directly. We also have a formal complaints procedure, and we will always follow up promptly and thoroughly. See our Safeguarding page for more information.

Funding

How much does it cost?

It depends on your funding situation. If your loved one is eligible for local authority funding, the council may cover some or all of the cost. If you are funding privately, our rates vary based on the level of support needed and the number of days attended. Contact us for a personalised quote.

Will the council pay for it?

That depends on the outcome of a care needs assessment. Contact Staffordshire Cares on 0300 111 8010 to request an assessment. If your loved one meets the eligibility criteria and Adult Day Centre is identified as a suitable service, the council may fund the placement.

Can I use a direct payment?

Yes. If your loved one receives a direct payment, they can use it to attend our centre. We are experienced in working with direct payments and can help arrange this.

Still Have Questions?

That is what we are here for. Get in touch. No question is too small, and we would rather you ask than wonder.
